Tooth Bonding An Overview
Dental bonding is a cosmetic solution for cosmetic imperfections in the smile. It is one of the dental services Dr. Fabrizio Dall’Olmo offers his patients. Bonding is a semi-permanent cosmetic restoration that can be used to enhance the appearance of the smile. Bonding is an ideal treatment for younger patients not ready to commit to dental veneers.
Dental bonding is made from a malleable composite material. The material can be color matched to the natural teeth. The malleable material is molded by hand on the tooth’s surface for a quick and effective solution to cosmetic dental concerns.

The Benefits of Dental Bonding
Tooth bonding is a popular choice for a variety of different reasons. To start, bonding can treat a variety of different cosmetic issues. It takes care of everything that porcelain veneers do, but isn’t something that you have to commit to permanently. Because it’s completely removable, it’s even a good solution for issues with children. We only have to slightly prepare the tooth for bonding, so it’s less invasive than veneers, which require removal of a large amount of tooth structure.
Because it’s a simple process, it can be completed quickly. Veneers and many other restoration options require at least two visits to our office. We can finish bonding in just one visit to the office. You don’t have to take time out of work or school for multiple visits to the dentist. You can get the bonding done and then go right back to your daily life.
Bonding is an easy way to upgrade your smile. It’s popular, too, because it’s one of the most cost-effective dental procedure options. Depending on the circumstances, insurance may even cover it. It also saves you money on gas and extra appointments, because it can all be done at one time.
It’s easy to correct any problems if you end up developing any with the bonding material. We can remove and replace the material if it cracks or stains. While the lifespan is usually around 5-10 years, it can last longer if you take expert care of it. It can help you avoid extensive and pricey procedures for problems like a chipped or cracked tooth.

Tooth Bonding What to Expect
The tooth bonding procedure is minimally invasive and causes little to no discomfort. Bonding is typically completed in one visit to our Santa Monica, CA dentist office. We first prepare your tooth for the bonding process. A very small amount of tooth structure must be removed so the bonding material adheres properly. The bond is more secure between the bonding material and prepared teeth.
We can color the bonding material to be any shade of white you desire. It can blend in perfectly with your natural teeth or whiten it a few shades. We want to ensure that you’re happy to show off your smile. We’ll color the material and prepare it for your tooth. The dentist molds the material to your teeth so that the size and shape look natural with the rest of your smile. Once you’re satisfied with the look, we harden the material with a special light. We polish up the bonding material so that it matches the natural sheen of the rest of your smile.
Dental bonding can last upwards of 10 years with proper oral hygiene. Bonding can be reversed and replaced with a dental veneer later.
Taking Care of Tooth Bonding
Like other dental restorations, bonding lasts longer if you’re taking proper care of it. The easiest way to take care of the bonding material is to brush and floss your teeth regularly. This removes plaque and debris from both your natural teeth and the bonding material. Antibacterial mouthwash adds another layer of protection, too.
You also need to visit the dentist at least twice a year for checkups. Professional dental cleanings ensure that your mouth stays clean and healthy. We also examine the state of your dental bonding and ensure that it’s still holding up. If there are any potential problems, we can likely bring them up to you before you’ll notice them yourself. Our dental team is trained to look for particular issues when it comes to your oral health.
Try to avoid eating anything that could damage the bonding material. Hard and crunchy foods are especially troublesome. Even when you’re eating harder foods, try to avoid biting down directly with the area with the bonding material. When direct pressure is applied to the area, it’s more likely to damage or break.
Your teeth should always be protected from any kind of direct impact. If you grind your teeth at night, get a nightguard to prevent your teeth from grinding together. Wear a mouthguard while playing sports or doing anything that could involve a direct blow to your teeth. Not only is it good for the restoration, but it also keeps the rest of your smile safer.
